Artist's Description
This work was created for the "Masked Intentions" exhibition at Cass Contemporary - USA. The theme inspired me to create a piece in which the "mask" was not an object, but an action. Here, it is not made to hide the figure - but to hide the world from them. The secondary figure in the painting cannot be visible, only their act, suggesting a hidden force, while the main figure "sees" the world through faith. One could consider it a reflection on the absence of reason. But sometimes I like to look at the main figure as a person who walks the world guided only by their own truth and convictions, which sounds intriguing and even courageous.
About Patricia Ariel
Artist of surreal and visionary themes, Patricia was born in 1970 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she lived and worked until moving to the United States. Although part self-taught, she has had some formal instruction in visual arts that included academic drawing training and fashion design. Besides drawing and painting, Patricia has expressed herself since early age through different artistic languages like theater, dance, and music. Her decision to become a professional fine artist came only later, after leaving her homeland. Working primarily with pencils, Patricia’s art is strongly influenced by her spirituality and insights about the connections of men with nature and magic, and the spiritual/psychic dimensions.
